The Newton-France Exchange Program
For the past three years, French teachers have led groups of students on a travel study program to France during the February school vacation. Vistas in Education, a company specializing in study abroad, facilitates the organization of the trip, which revolves around a five-day family home stay and includes the touring of major tourist and cultural sites. While living with their host families, students also attend classes at a regional school. In February 2008, students were hosted by families in the southwest city of Pau before traveling on to Paris. In prior years, students lived with families in Cannes as well as Savigny-sur-Orge, in the region just south of Paris.
Students generally apply in the late spring to participate in the coming year’s program. Prior to departure, students spend several J-block sessions with their teachers preparing for the cultural and linguistic practicalities of life abroad in France. A meeting for all students and their families also takes place before students depart.
The dates and destination of next year’s trip have not yet been determined. Please check back for updated information, which will be available in the late spring.
